Frequently Asked Questions

Should a writer be an expert in my field?

No. You’re the expert on your field, industry or sector. A great writer is an expert in words, and can apply that expertise to any subject. That said, being curious and reading a little reading around the topic helps get the best results.

Is there enough time to prooofread?

Did you spot the typo in the question? That one was deliberate, but as we’re only human it’s always a good idea to proofread where possible.

If time is short, then we can agree to proofread only specific sections or documents, or to highlight / amend only the most obvious errors.

Self-proofing is hard,  even for professional proofreaders, as you will see what you think is there, not what is actually written.

What’s the difference between copyediting and proofreading?

Both processes correct problems in the text, but copyediting (or editing) challenges sentence structure, meaning and tone of voice as well as correcting spelling and grammatical errors.

Proofreading is more of a finishing touch, working on the final version, or ‘proof’, before printing or publication. Proofreaders correct spelling and more obvious grammatical errors. Proofediting falls somewhere in between.

How do you like your tea?

Milk, no sugar. And in person where location, and restrictions, permit. Cheers!
